Day 3: Kathmandu
Summary of Our day:
Gear check
Self-guided city explore
Trip briefing and team dinner
Gear Check
We successfully completed the gear check. As Lisa said, it felt like we passed an exam. There was nothing much we were missing, which is good. We bought replacement batteries at the BigMart and then walked down to Thamel District.
Kathmandu Durbar Square
We walked down to Kathmandu Durbar Square, one of seven UNESCO sites in the Kathmandu Valley. It was amazing to see and explore such a beautiful and historic set of buildings.
Trip Briefing and Team Dinner
Chhiring Sonam (Kathmandu Liaison) and Namgel Jangbu (our guide) walked us through a very detailed pre-trip briefing, including a presentation with photos, routes, and health and safety guidance. It was a well-organised session and a master class in managing expectations.
Introductions went quickly. And, buddy assignments were straightforward: Lisa and I agreed that we would be each other’s buddy for the trip. (Lisa and I are the only clients on the trip.)
Dinner was at Le Sherpa, a gorgeous French-Sherpa fusion restaurant. It made for a great start to the trip.
