Small Joys

I find one of the small joys as an organisational development professional is helping deep technical experts learn the craft of people leadership.

Today I had the privilege of presenting to our Clinical Leaders Course - our three-day professional development programme for clinical leaders.  Now on our tenth cohort, we have built the programme to specifically address the challenges faced by clinical leaders in our health system.

In our time together we covered the following:

  • The Principles of New Zealand employment law

  • The role of the People and Culture (née Human Resources) function.

  • The craft of performance management.

  • How to be a good manager.

  • And, one magic question to explore what people need from their manager.

It was an awesome dynamic conversation reflecting the accumulated wisdom of the participants. Such a great conversation about how to be a people leader in the health system. So much fun.
